Seed importation in 2015 increases approximately 7% in proportion to value of imports in 2014 and it reachs 202 millions of dollars. Turkey imported seed from 63 different countries (except free trade zone).
Major part of seed imports is vegetable seeds (57%). Primarily imports seeds are tomato and potato, others follow them such as sugar beet, pepper, et al.
About 50% of Turkey’s seed importation imported to five counties. They are France, Holland, USA, Peru and Thailand. China, Chile and Australia are other countries monitored increment of imports in recent years.

Corn production started predominantly in Black Sea region and Marmara region in 1950’s in Turkey. After 1980’s it tended towards to Mediterranean region and Aegean region. Recently increase of corn production significantly in Southeastern Anatolia region.
Corn is highest summer grown plant among cereals except wheat and barley. Corn has grown about 60 provinces in Turkey that she has 81 provinces, especially Adana, Mardin, Urfa, Sakarya, Osmaniye, Manisa, Mersin, Maraş, Konya, Bursa, Aydın, İzmir, Diyarbakır and Hatay provinces.
