Although Turkey has exported certified seeds to about 70 countries, we import 90 million dollars of vegetables seeds a year. So TİGEM (Directorate General of Agricultural Enterprises) is a public body began working in this field. TİGEM has completed its prepared for first national vegetables seeds productions. In Antalya Boztepe Enterprise, new line and varieties such as tomato, pepper, cucumber, egg plant and melon will be developed. Then these new varieties will be reproduced and submitted to our farmers. Thus we can meet both our needs of certified vegetables seeds and we are able to develop our capacity of export in this area.
Minister of MoFAL said that there is a inadequacy in certified seed sector. We has conducted necessary efforts with private sector. And we will increase 10 times supports of R&D (Research and Development) activities in the coming period.
