The oldest olive tree fruiting still is founded in Kırkağaç which is a district of Manisa province in Turkey. Its age is determined as 1,655 years by Turkish authorities.

The number of preserved plant species in seed gene banks which are established for protect to genetic sources of Turkish transfer of biological diversity to the next generation in Ankara and Izmir provinces reach 110 thousands. These banks work for Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock. Big one of them is in the Field Crops Central Research Institute in Ankara and the small one is in the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute in Izmir.

Turkey ranks sixteenth in the world with 720,257 tons cabbage productions. White head cabbage productions’ ratio is 1.74% in total vegetable productions. Although red head cabbage is an increase in production in recent years, its share of the total vegetable production is approximately 0.6% percent.
