In an interview the head of Turkey Seed Growers Association Mr. Kamil YILMAZ said that “One of the important problems in seed sector is informal sales. The meaning of sales is uncontrolled sales about disease, name accuracy, germination power, germination rate, purity, yield ratio, etc. These seeds don’t have certificate and guaranty. So if you are using these seeds, you will be under risk. You can get low yield from unit area because germination rate, yield rate, disease rate etc of the uncontrolled seeds are unknown. If farmers use the seeds, they will lose both themselves and our country. Although the seeds are cheap they are expensive actually. Indeed the seeds are yield not certified seeds. 1.1.1. General Directorate of Vegetative Production (GDVP)
GDVP determines seed production policies in Turkey. Also GDVP conducts implementations of these policies. And to prepare regulations and rules about registered plant varieties, certification works of seed, seeding and sapling, plant breeders’ rights, ornamental plants, control and authorization, advance-fixing certificate, delegations, data collection are related to main field of activity of GDVP.
